Features / description A sickle hand scaler the scythe shape fits the curved tooth surface A double ended instrument - each end being the mirror image with opposite complimentary curvature left and right. Hand scalers have a sharp tip and a more robust working end compared to a curette A balanced grip handle which has a large diameter for comfortable grip and good control. Uses Scaling teeth above the gum line ONLY, i.e. supragingivally, so removing calculus (tartar) How to use The instrument is held in a modified pen grip. The working end is placed against the tooth surface just above the gum line with the flat face at 90 degrees so that the sharp edge contacts. The scaler is pulled across the tooth usually up the crown from gum line towards tip.
