Water Distiller Maintenance Guide

Regular maintenance and proper care of your water distiller are essential for ensuring its longevity and optimal performance. By following these simple steps, you can keep your water distiller in excellent condition whilst in use in practice.

Key maintenance tips:

  • Location and Stability: Place your water distiller in a dry, well-ventilated area on a stable surface. This ensures proper functioning and prevents any accidents or damage.
  • Cooling Down Period: Allow the unit to cool down between cycles and before removing the top. This prevents any potential burns and prolongs the lifespan of the unit.
  • Water Filling: Only fill the distiller with clean water using a jug. Avoid adding any impurities or contaminants that could affect the distillation process.
  • Unplugging and Cover Removal: When not in use, leave the power cord unconnected. Also, avoid removing the cover while the unit is mid-cycle to prevent any damage or accidental exposure to hot surfaces.
  • Carbon Filter Replacement: If you are using the water distiller for drinking water, it is recommended to replace the carbon filter every three months. This ensures the highest quality of filtered water.

Cleaning:
Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and cleanliness of your water distiller. Avoid your water distiller looking like the image on the right and follow these steps to keep your unit in top condition:
  • Daily Rinse: After each use, rinse and wipe out the tank with clean water. This removes any residue or impurities.
  • Removing Lime Scale: Approximately every two weeks, you may need to remove calcification and limescale from the bottom of the tank. Follow these instructions:

a. Pour warm water into the tank to cover the limescale.
b. Add 1 to 4 teaspoons of the descaling cleaning solution provided with the unit, depending on the amount of limescale. Alternatively, a 50:50 ratio of white vinegar and warm water can also be used.
c. Leave the lid off the unit and start a cycle by pushing the 'reset' button.
d. Run the cycle for 30 minutes. To stop the unit mid-cycle, turn off the power switch. This step softens the limescale.
e. Use a sponge or soft scouring pad to remove the limescale from the tank.
f. If necessary, repeat the process until the lime scale is completely removed.
